Clutch Problems On an 89 F250

Hello I have an 89 F250.

I rebuilt almost the whole truck, I am just having one last issue. I am having a hell of a time with the clutch. All seems good with the transmission, but I am having a hell of a time getting the slave cylinder assembly in and the arm it pushes on wont move at all. I had the clutch cylinder in and all assembled and it would not fully activate the clutch. I took it all apart to look, but it all seems ok. Should I be able to at least budge the arm by hand?

What could be my next go to?

I doubt you'll be able to move the throwout by hand.

How are you trying to push the slave actuating rod back into the cylinder?

A new slave will have a plastic retaining strap because the rod & piston are spring loaded, and the plastic socket is meant to ride between the rod and throwout recess.

Have you tried bleeding the clutch?

These systems also have issues with firewall flex and the plastic retaining bushing where the pedal link meets the master cylinder pushrod 'eye' failing.

It doesn't take much slop at all to make it difficult or impossible to disengage the clutch.

I had the cylinder in, then took it out when I was having issues. I used the plastic retaining tab, for the first install, but it is long gone now. I am trying to depress it by hand, but it think I will have to rig something up. I have been bleeding the **** out of it. Either I an having huge bleeding issues or it will not depress the clutch. I have followed the blue book manual to bled it and the the pedal could be firmer, but it still seems not bad. It is holding pressure and all seems text book. I will re install the cyl and see if I can bleed the hell out of it.

They are a bitch to bleed.
Sometimes (if you can get it to work at all) the best thing is to just drive it.
Reverse is tough, but mine sorted itself out in a few minutes of driving.

Total movement is supposed to be under 3/4"
Check that that little plastic bushing is tight.
Any play there will really screw you up.
