Smile 2010 Excursion Conversion has started need HELP

I got the 2010 front end and have Archtaan's build thread to help with the front end swap. I have the option to get the interior out of the truck as well. Donor truck is a 2010 Crew Cab F250 Lariat.

I have a few questions:

I know that the dash is a tedious task but, does anyone have a good wright up on a how to? I also can get the steering column.

Will the rear door panels swap out from the F250 to the ex? I know the front will with modification but, I haven't found anything on the rear doors.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Keith

The rear doors are indeed a different size as Apocalypse has said. I doubt they could be modded to work.

screw it...do the front door panels. I would. I can live with my kids having to look at 2002 style and me/wife dealing with 2010 style

haha. Well, the conversion companies figure out a way to do the door panel swap. Idk how. Maybe look at their photos closely?

I believe you need another set of "front doors" for he rear of our excursions. DO NOT attempt the dash unless you are super intelligent with advanced wiring and some custom fabrication.
I have tried hard to find info on this and have only heard of a few successful swaps. Most end half way. The a/c system is relocated inside the cab, you need to splice the passenger side of the firewall, canbus is an advanced and finicky electrical system that the newer trucks use, heater vent ducting is different and unless you swap to a newer engine you won't get rid of the cel. I've read that it's a nightmare to complete and the guy was an electrical engineer apparently.

I think it would be cheaper even to buy a newer truck and convert it unfortunately.

the dash swap is the same deal as making a 4x2 into a 4x4

if you keep it simple, it will work. many guys have proved that by using manual 4x4 components, you can convert a 4x2 into 4x4 with minimal fuss

I foresee a dash swap as the same. keep the 00-05 wiring and instrument panel, but change the cladding itself. with some patience and fiberglass you can fit the instrument panel to a 08+ dash. sanding and paint will fix most everything.

as far as substructure, any welder worth his salt can fix that aspect. This is a swap I'd love to do once I get back to the mainland. the parts and the $$$ is why I can't attempt anything fun like this just yet. shipping...blah

Tylus,
I feel your pain... Alaska, Hawaii, same-same. Everything costs twice as much because of shipping, if they will even ship to us at all....
We intend on moving when my jobs contract is up in a few years, so we can move some where cheaper to live. But for the time being, raising kids in Alaska is a really great perk about living on an island in Alaska.

You can't "dumb" this swap down and do all manual stuff that's the issue. Physically fitting it with custom fabrication I read still requires the half firewall swap unless you LOVE precise fabrication. I think the real issue is the switches and how they operate. I doubt you can connect new switches to the old control modules.some may work but won't others rely on the new canbus system and new control modules?
And the best part of the swap in my opinion is the gauge cluster which is very hard to get to work properly.
I would love to do this swap as well the new interior far exceeds our style in every way (except the F650 dash) and it's actually very refined while looking rugged and tough....
Your making me want to find a way to complete this that a normal person could do.

You also need to remove he whole steering shaft, mounting the new wheel isn't an option, some things like the turn signal switches ( I believe it was 2008 or was it the 2011 version??) Are no longer mechanical and send a signal to a control module to determine what the results are.
Avoiding the new gauge would eliminate a huge electrical fiasco that's for sure

The rear should work if you use both and make like a hybrid of both then paint or wrap the completed panel in vinyl or something. Thats how I'd go about it (use the OE excursion panel as a "skeleton" so it mounts to the door itself properly)

Thank yall for the help. Well after going to a salvage yard and comparing the ex to the 2010 firewall and wiring I have decided not to attempt to tackle the interior at this time. I am still doing the front end swap. I will keep y'all up to date on my progress.
