Oil Pressure Sensor

Have my 2008 F-250 with the 2006 engine. I would like to install an external, mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge. I am used to the pressure sending unit being install above the oil filter on the oil filter adaptor bracket, on the left side of the engine.

Where that bracket is normally mounted I have a bracket strictly for mounting the lower radiator hose.

Well, my oil filter is mounted on its own bracket, toward the rear of the engine, left side, and I cannot find a pressure sending unit anywhere.

I do have a very large plastic nut with two connectors inside, mounted on the oil pan, on the right side of the oil pan. Nothing is connected to it and there are no wire anywhere near it. What is that thing for????

Looking forward to the help I know I will get.

thanks everyone
Martin

I wonder if the Scan guage 2 would give you oil pressure, If so that would be the way to go because you could monitor a whole bunch of stuff including the trans temp...

I think the sensor on the pan is for oil temp.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense, but nothing is connected to it. It is just a large (1 1/4") hex nut with the female connector built in. No wires anywhere near it, but temp sensor makes sense. Any thoughts where the Oil Pressure Sensor is?

well, went to Rockauto.com and looked at their schematics. Sure enough it is an oil temperature sensor. I wonder why it is there, I have no harness or connector for it. Must be an option I don't have

any thoughts about the location of the oil pressure sensor?

I'm assuming you have a gas motor. The sending unit is usually on the drivers side front just before the motor mount/oil filter adapter, in the side of the block.

That is where I have seen every other 5.4 sensor and Filter. Mine on the other hand, has the filter toward the left rear of the engine, not on the front like all others.

Every one I have ever seen it was in that mounting bracket that the filter mounts to, as well as the lower hoses. Mine is different. I don't have that bracket, I have a different one that mounts my filter at the driver side rear of the engine, almost perfectly upside down.

Can you post a few pics of the area? I am not sure about the 3V motors, they may have changed the location. Was the motor in from an F or E series truck?

I don't know where the motor came from. I am half tempted to say a Mustang as I have a Oil Temperature Sensor in the Oil Pan (not hooked up) and I don't be believe that the trucks have that option. Also I am not able to post pictures. The area where the "normal" adaptor plate is only has the radiator hose coming to the engine. My oil filter is mounted about a foot further back hanging upside down on its own bracket. I will say, it is one of the easiest to change I have ever experienced.
