Cavitation

How much damage, as far as cavitation, would it cause if I filled the radiator up (been sittin a few years) and drove it a half mile to a more secluded spot so real work could be done to it?
It's currently in a fancy parking lot area and they frown on people working on their vehicles and I don't feel like I should get a tow for that far if I can get it running.
I plan on changing the oil too, should I do that now or later

The oil change is by far more important than the coolant. To drive half a mile you could just fill it with straight water if you wanted just to get it there (definately drain it before it freezes though).

If the oil is decent its probably fine, as long as there is no water or anything in it.

I want to change the oil so I atleast know how many miles/years it's on, also with the truck having sat for so long, it'll oil the engine and not just the bottom of it all.

That was my plan until I got it to a better spot.
How would you recommend flushing the powersteering? It's quiet full and rather dirty looking.

The brake fluid has vacuumed itself shut so ill have to get it running before I check the brakes, they do work good so far tho.

Not sure the "correct" to do it, but i suppose i would pull the return line off the box or pump and stick it in a bucket, fire up the truck, and pour atf in the pump until its clean. Probably best to turn lock to lock a few times as well.

sitting dry for years is harder on it than putting water in it for a couple of miles.
if you have an engain sitting around that you plan to use someday keep it full of antifreeze.

As I understand it, cavitation is the result of driving a truck for miles/years without addressing the issue, not something that's going to rear its head in a half mile of driving.

I used the same method to flush my PS, though I put the front end on jack stands first to keep the load down on the pump. Probably doesn't matter, though.
