5w-40 Rotella Synthetic Thought's Suggestion's
I am thinking of switching oil I have been using Rotella 15W40 dino oil since I bought my 2004 6.0. It just turned 101,000miles and I have an oil change coming due soon. I did a search on the 5w-40 Rotella Synthetic and the only in the 7.3 forums was there any discussions. I do have the cold start injector sticking until it gets to operating temp. I am hoping that the lighter oil and being synthetic it may help. The 7.3 guys claim it helps on cold starts and engine diesel clatter is quietier.. Thoughts

Thanks for the replies I will goe to Wally World and get some. I checked my ficm and had good 56v when it was cold well 50deg I am in Gilbert AZ. I was talking to anoter 6.0 owner while fueling the other day he had the same rough idle when cold. He said that the spool shuttle valve thing on the injectors stick when cold and ford reflashed his truck with a warming option for the valve thing and it works great now. I also saw on You Tube a guy ended up using a whole big jug of diesel kleen silver and a quart of 2stroke oil in his excursion with 6.0, 2 tank fulls later no more sticky injectors, Another You Tube a guy with 6.0 was ready to do oil change tha t afternoon, so He poured a big bottle of marvel mystery oil in it drove around that morning and after his oil change no more sticky injectors. Any thoughts or experiences with either of these?

I run T6 5w40 all year round too. Gets up near 90*F in the summer and down to <10*F in the winter. I haven't sent my oil out for any kind of analysis but going off feel I can tell the truck has a much easier time starting in the winter compared to the dino when I drove it off the dealer lot.

Thanks for the input. I think what I may do is switch to 5w-40syn during the cooler months and back to 15w-40 during the hot months because we hover around 110*F-115*F from end of May through September. However I didnt see that Wally World carried Rotella 15w-40 in synthetic only dino.

I just changed from schaffers syn 5w40 to rotella syn.........was chasing a stiction problem.......talked to Ed from FICMrepair.com. He sells a product called hot shot secret.......It is a oil and a fuel additive to remove the stuff in the injectors...........I wasnt one to believe in a " mechanic in a can" snake oil crap..........but @ 300.00 a pop for an injector.......i tried it...........so far so good......mileage is back up .........running like new.....lots of power...and no i am not an actor or paid professional...........But it has worked so far.....good luck

I wouldnt think 50* would be cold enough to cause stiction or warrant using anything but a 15W40 oil. Its been in the 30* range where I am and I haven't noticed anything. I'm running Delo 15W40 LE. Of course my oil hardly gets more then 2500 miles on it before I change it due to time. What are your oil change intervals?
