This is kind of lame, but my solution was to keep 2 distributors. I would send one into a guy that advertised in Hemmings Motor News, and he'd fix it up. Then Id keep it for a spare. The dual points always confused me as I'm very challenged by electricity. The points need to be synchronized with a special fixture that I never had. I'm quite sure there must be an easier way, something a farmer could fix at home, but for me at the time, just swapping them out was nice. I ran the '42 'crab' style distributer with 2 bolts. This seemed easier to deal with to me. The guy was a perfectionist and only did Flathead carbs and distributors. I kept 2 carbs back then too, and did the same thing with them. These days I can work on the carbs just fine. Hope this helps. His name was Jere Job, and ran 'Vintage carburetion' in So. Cal. Last I heard he had moved shop to Montana. Lucky Him!

They are done on a distr machine with a fixture for the early distr, you actually set timing & dwell on the distr mache - like a Sun 504 etc - and then bolt the distr in place.
