5x5.5 9 inch to 5x4.5 wheels disc brakes
I know this has been talked about for years, I have a mustang II ifs, and a ford 9 inch from 63 f100 which is 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I want to put disc brakes on it, and run 1.5 inch spacer/adapter to convert to 5x4.5 bolt pattern. How do I add disc brakes with weld on caliper brackets? Sorry for regurgitating the same questions over and over and over... I know it gets old for most of you guys

Why not just swap out the 9" for a 95-2001 Explorer 8.8". You get the disc brakes and 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern. And around here they sell for less then $200.
Or if you want to stick with the 9" why not replace the axle shafts with some aftermarket ones ( 4.5" bolt pattern ) and run Explorer rear disc brakes? You would have to change out the 9" housing ends to work with the Explorer brakes though.
Either way I think it would be a better choice then welding on caliper brackets and running spacers/adapters.

Are they that hard to find in your area? They are everywhere around my area.
Why not sell the 9" and pick up another 8.8". Just make sure it's 95-2001 Explorer 8.8".
The complete Explorer rear diff would be the cheapest way to go. To use the Explorer brakes on your 9" housing you need the late model big bearing housing ends. Which means cutting the old ones off and welding the new ones on. And to do this you need a jig. So that means having a shop do it. Then you have the aftermarket axle shafts to get the smaller bolt pattern.
