ive had the gauge cluster out before, but not for that reason. But its not bad to remove.
Lower the tilt wheel all the way down
Remove the bezel around the gauge, it just pulls out, and unhook the wiring.
If its an auto you may have to drop it down into 1st gear, just remember to chock your wheels and set your brake so you don't roll to your death.
This should expose the bolts holding the cluster in, remove those and she comes right out, if you have an automatic transmission then you need to deal with the gear indicator thing too, just be careful its fragile.
I would imagine that the bulbs should be changeable at that point. Its really pretty easy to remove.

I have been using the Sylvania # 73 lamp in mine.
They are 1.1 watt and light up the cluster well.
You may want to do all of them when in there
so that the light output is uniform. I did have one
lamp I had to replace the little holder on. They are
expensive little buggers for what they are.
