High pressure pump keeps losing oil

My good old 95 ccd is driving me nuts. Twice in the past 2 weeks the HPOP has been almost completely empty. I've been looking on here but not having any luck with my searches on why this would be happening; is it a bad pump or something more or less complicated?? And this is not the first time it's happened but it has been a while.... any suggestions on where to begin?

Did this happen to start right after an oil change?

No this did not happen in relation to an oil change. It's pretty random actually. The truck had shut off on me in the middle of the street a couple months ago and after I eventually got it started and home it sat in the driveway for a couple months before I got around to messing with it. At that point I checked the hpop and it was empty (maybe 1/4" in bottom) and the crankcase was low also. Filled both and it seemed ok, at least for 2 weeks. Went out to start it Monday and it was empty again. Didn't notice any real difference on dipstick but can't be sure. Filled it up and started it up.

When it does run and you throttle it up it sounds like it has a miss in it. At least that's how I'd describe it if it were a gasser. Kind of like the timing would be off.
