I just got the Viper Smartstart. It is a pretty cool system, but there are some adjustments that need to be made. When the tech first installed it he set the wait to start to 5 seconds and the crank to .5 seconds. This obviously wasn't going to work. I want the wts set to 45 seconds I think, but I don't know how long to set the crank for. He did up it to .9 seconds. Still not long enough for the mornings. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
I would think the .9 is no where long enough to start..I remote start mine every morning, even though I have not timed it,I would say 4 seconds. My wait to start is set @ 30 seconds and its never failed to fire right up..
edit...I see you are in PA..The 45 second wait to start is probally right and I would say 4-6 seconds to start..
Is there no way to hook the GPR aftermarket light that folks are using to the remote start? So that is fires when the relay actually shuts off?
I don't think so. If you did,the relay can stay on for up to 2 minutes

yes, mine does (with the remote start)..If it cranks for to long,it will drain the batteries or burn up the starter..With the remote start, it is suppose to try to start for a preset time limit, then it it wait a minute and try Agean. I believe it will try 3 times and if the truck don't start at that point it will time out.
Look at the installation manual for the auto starter. I have mine set to wait 20 seconds to allow glow plugs to heat then the starter is engaged until it picks up voltage from the high voltage tach input. Starts every time without a problem.
I installed a cheapo unit and set it for 20 seconds for wait to start then I believe it was .8 seconds for crank time. Worked every time for me unless I forgot to plug it in during cold weather, (less than 30 F) Then it would have to try a second time before it started.

X2! Anytime u install an autostarter on a vehicle u want to use the tech sensing option, not just a timed crank. Also u should be able to wire the starter so it will sence when the wait to start light goes out before it will attempt to start
My Viper is 45 sec WTS and speed sensor for starter disengage. You need the guy to hook up the speed sensor function and not the timed crank for your diesel.
I have the DEI Viper and set it to watch the WTS light for startup and the tach to stop cranking. I also have a switch to go from monitoring the WTS light to monitoring the glow plug relay just in case I go somewhere cold.
