New to Powerstroke

Hey everyone! I picked up a nice 1995 Powerstroke about 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it! Got it for a good price and couldn't be happier. So it needs an oil change and I've searched but there's a ton of stuff to sift through. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what y'all normally use and where you get it and how much it takes, etc. any info would be great! Thanks

Welcome to FTE! An oil change is 15qts. You can go conventional (15-40) or a lot of guys go synthetic 5-40.

Personally I do the synthetic (it's our house brand oil, I work in a garage) with a motorcraft filter for 5k. The po of my truck was using rotella t-6 5-40, although some around here complain it increases consumption. I'm sure others will chime in but this is just my preference.

Clean oil is important because our trucks use it to run the fuel injectors.

Congrats on your purchase and once again welcome! There's a lot of knowledgeable guys around here. Stick around!

Welcome to FTE! Congratulations on your purchase, these trucks are fantastic and will treat you right with proper maintenance.

The main thing is to use the proper diesel rated oil. 10 guys are going to give you 10 different brands to run. Find one that fits your budget, that your truck likes and stick with it. I personally run Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic and do a change every 5k. I also run a larger filter. But staying on top of oil changes is paramount to keeping these old trucks happy!

Here is the link to the filters I and some others run.

Oil filter, ELF7405, Donaldson - Ryder Fleet Products

Thanks guys! The po told me he's been using full synthetic for the past year. So 5-40 is good? A local shop has good deals on it for me

Yes that's what the T6 is. You can find the motorcraft filters for around 10 bucks at Wally World as well. Stick around and learn as much as you can about your truck.

Oh and we love pictures around here!

Hi Juicyjuice, welcome to the OBS Powerstroke forums! Go to your local Walmart and get 3 five quart jugs of the 15-40 Motorcraft oil and the oil filter. The 3 jugs will give you enough oil for the oil change, and a qt. left over. Actually the oil you use is up to you as long as it is an oil that is rated for a diesel engine. I am using NAPA All Fleet right now, as that is what I have on hand, as I buy oil in 55 gal drums for my farm tractors.

Has a few small mods like exhaust and a small chip. It has 320ishk miles on it. Paid pretty much nothing for it!

Royal blue is a very nice color. Gotta be careful with it though, sun loves to kill that paint.

Nice truck man

Thanks everyone! Ya I really lucked out. I almost settled for a 94 idi with a blown rear end for 1800 that would've had to be towed etc. and the guy that had this contacted me the day before I went to get the 94. Paid 1900 for this one so I'd say I made the right decision. And turns out the owner was best friends with my brother and a lot of my brothers friends. Small world. But I'm happy! Just picked up the oil and filter. Went with the 5-40.
