It whines all the time. Wish it was quieter. Trying to get rid of all the random noises my truck makes.

About the only way I know to quiet a ford power steering pump is to replace it, all of my fords have whining PS pumps.

If I remember correctly I think Dorman rebuilds the PS pumps, but I don't remember them being much quieter. Is yours whining loud enough to hear when you are driving? Also does the whine get louder when you move the steering wheel? If so, it is time to replace it, A new one will whine but not loud enough to hear while you are driving the truck. Another thing I have done and it helped quiet it down some was to completely flush the system and put new fluid in it.

If it is just a faint whine, then is sounds like it is acting normal for a Ford PS pump.

Mine was whining crazy loud then I realized I had no power steering fluid what so ever. I was lucky it didn't blow. I added some and it's way quieter now. I know it sounds stupid but check the fluid you never know.

The hot setup on these boards to to find a Saginaw pump off a 300-equipped van. Get the mounting bracket and lines, supposed to be a direct replacement, or pretty close. Bracket bolts in, lines might take a bit of massaging to fit.

suck out the old crusty fluid with a syringe or a pump, and replace it with lucas power steering fix. if its not completely shot, it will be quieter.

If you're using power steering fluid flush it all out replacing it with type F transmission fluid, flush it unit all PS fluid has been removed.

What has been told pretty much cover it up, either doing a Saginaw swap, filling the fluid or going aftermarket. But personally I would tell you not to change a thing unless it's leaking.

nothin wrong with a fluid change even if its not leaking, it gets pretty nasty in there. while the systems arent designed to be drained and refilled, the odometers also have 5 digits. they designed the system to live a long time maintenance free, but it was never meant to be run with 20 year old fluid with countless miles.

Yea, I'm rocking 160k miles. May be a good idea to change it out. What's the best fluid to use?
