Steering Box Woes

Steering Box Woes
1994 F250 4WD 7.3 Powerstroke
On a trip, did a three point turn and at full turn of the steering wheel, heard a loud pop and lost all of the power steering fluid The truck still steered fine except super hard to turn the wheel. I drove it home.
Upon examination, the head had shorn off of one of the two bolts that holds the top of the box down. This is at the top of the box that has the adjustment screw. If I add more fluid, it just pours out between the body and the top of the box.
I took out the other bolt and the nut from the adjustment screw thinking I could remove this top plate, but it won't come off. I must have to remove the drop arm and take out the whole sector shaft? I need to grip the shorn bolt to remove it.
Question though, if I can replace these bolts with new, will that seal the box? Or do you think there was failure inside somewhere that caused this? Should I just replace with a new box?
Thanks for any help, Keith

Replacing the bolt might allow the steering box to seal, but you will probably need new seals and or gaskets at the least. this doesn't do anything about fixing the cause, which seems to me to be an overpressure situation, i.e. you were at full lock and the hydraulic system relief valve did not relieve excess pressure.
Personally, I would replace the whole steering gear box. The last time I tried to get seals for a steering box, the parts guys at the two local stores could not find them in either the computer or the books.
