ZF-5 ISSUE!

ok over the past few months there would be times i couldnt put it into gear while i first started it. so id have to shut it off throw it in gear and be on my way.
if i did do it that way the truck would lunge foward just a bit.
today i jumped in my truck and when i pressed on the clutch to start the truck the pedal felt easier than normal to push down.
sure enough i couldnt get it into gear and i tried what i normally do by shutting it off and put into gear that way...but this time the truck took off and i had to yank it out of gear to stop the truck.
anyone know what the issue may be?

Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. If it's full, sounds like you may have a bad master or slave cylinder.

When you take the cap off the master cylinder, the reservoir should be about 3/4 of the way full.

After removing the cap on the resivor, you will need to pull the rubber cup out of the resivor. The cup should be between the fluid and the cap.

My clutch master cylinder and cap are black. So seems it could be black or white.

Also, to help the op - the clutch maste/reservoir is just to the passenger side of the big round break booster on the firewall in the engine compartment.

I'd say you probably have a bad slave or master cylinder. You can buy the whole system already full of fluid and pre-bled at the parts stores for about $200.

I've never priced the kit from Ford. If it's not too expensive you could go with Ford, but if it is a ridiculous price, the parts store one should be fine. I've used a couple of the parts store systems and never had any problems.

Some of the parts store ones are the wrong bore size and are too small.

Ya, system being slave and master.

Williams right. Someone recently posted here about fighting with parts store slaves and their smaller size. He ended up rebuilding his Ford one and said the clutch was much easier to push than it ever was with the parts store brand.
