If standard put in neutral, auto leave in park. The engine should turn over or hear the click. Sometimes connection gets dirty or cold will contract enough to loose connection. This bypasses the switch. You can turn it on and if it turns over, will probably start

Yup, I forgot about cleaning the battery terminals. And you should hear the solenoid click if you have battery power.

Morning Jim. Frosty 10 here in the hollow.

Heat wave up here.somewhere around 16.. those valleys can sure accumulate cold. One morning I snowmobiled to work. Was cold, around-15, I could definitely feel it was colder in the valley. Coworkers were saying they were seeing-20 to-25 as they got closer to work

Yup - but he'll either have a clicking solenoid or not. If not then there's another issue.

BTW, Fluid Film is also really good on battery terminals.

Clean them all up and then a squirt of FF before you reassemble and you'll be good for a long time. Again, because it isn't a volatile it doesn't evaporate and leave you unprotected. It is also dielectric so not affected by battery current.
