I have a '95 5spd with electronic speedo.
The tail housing has the place for the mechanical speedo, but not machined out.
what my question is does the output shaft have the gear on it?
If it does then I can machine out the tailhousing
I do have a '89 5spd and it has the M-speedo but I'm trying to save that one for my van. any help would be appreciated.

I would bet there is nothing in there to run a gear speedo

 

If you are lucky, the tailshaft will be machined for the gear. I had to go through this when I put a transfer case from a 93 into my 88.

The easiest way would be to use an older tailshaft housing that is already machined for the speedometer cable.

I have the same problem with a E4OD going(possably) into my 89 F250. It has the machined place for a speedo cable(plugged off), but no gear on the tail shaft
