Im pretty sure ford only recommends synthetic

 

I didn't know that Ford recommended synthetic. I will probably go with Mobil 1 synthetic. I will have to make sure they make it in 5W-20. I assume they do. I think I am running some other brand 5W-20 Synthetic in my '03 V-10.

 

I bought my 08 new and have only used the recomended motorcraft 5w-20 and motorcraft filter. I change the oil every 5-7k miles and have never had an issue. I tow a lot and plow commercialy in the winter. Considering I was in Afghanistan for a year and had had another dd for another year I put 90k miles on it in basically 3 years without any issues with the oil.

 

Just back from the shop. The 5.4 is going back together!! Here are some pics to check out. I don't see many posts on this forum with hard core tech pics....so here you all go. If you want to study up on the 3 Valve 5.4 motor, lets go for a ride!!!

 

The first thing to note is the color. We have to be a little different, coming from a Mopar background...so the block is painted Small block Chrysler blue.

 

The cylinders have been bored 0.020" over and 0.003" off the deck.

 

 

 

 

New oil pump, rod and main bearings, new rod bolts

 

3 valve heads. Bare. Fresh valve job. Cleaned. Ready to assemble.

 

0.003" off deck surface to clean up.

 

Exhaust ports.....

 

 

Valves refaced. #8 exhaust valve replaced.
