2002 excur V10 no start
Odd issue here
2002 excursion, v10. driven and parked about 6 months ago. went to start and nothing. dead battery. Bought battery. This is where the oddities start.
the sound of the engine cranking can be heard but sounds odd. Looking at the fan and belt and dampner, they are not moving when we think we hear the engine cranking..Obviously its not starting..I am baffled. Since this isnt the car i drive i dont know what a V10 starter sounds like so maybe that is the odd sound..but..sounds like engine cranking but nothing moving on front of engine..
Help..

Look at the crankshaft pulley while cranking. if it's rotating but the serpentine belt isn't, then one of the accessories that run off that belt is probably locked up. Remove the belt and see if it cranks properly. If so, manually check each item (alternator, compressor, PS pump, etc) that runs off the belt to see which one isn't rotating.
Forget that, neither will keep the belt from turning when the starter is cranking the engine.
Sounds fuel pump or crank sensor.

The sound is like a broken timing chain. So when
Looking at crank pully, while cranking, it is not
Turning. Could the crank be broken?

Well, if the starter motor is turning the flywheel (attached to one end of the crankshaft) but the crank pulley isn't turning at the other end of the crank, there are only two things I can think of: Sheared key on the pulley allowing the crank to turn inside the pulley (check the nut on the end of the shaft) or the crank has sheared.
I've not heard of either happening, but, based on your descriptions, those are the only things that come to mind.

I didi think of the key sheared, but the likliness of the whole key shearing is almost none..if the timing gear portion sheared, then the cranl pully would still turn..if the pully portion sheared then the engine would still start, just not turn the external accessories like fan, alt etc..so im thiniing the crank itself is sheared
