The carrier adjustment make it very easy but the principles are the same as a dana. I'd regear Dana's any day of the week, blindfolded and one hand behind my back over Pauls Sterling. That thing made me cuss....a lot. If it wasn't so heavy I would've thrown it out the shop

What was so bad about that sterling compared to a Dana?

The initial setup was wrong so I had no baseline to start making adjustments. It also had no pinion shims or crush sleeve in it what so ever. Then when I finally get it set somewhat close I see the runout on the ring gear was like .005" causing loose and tight spots. This is after i found the pinion splines were cut wrong.

I guess a majority of my complaint is with a crappy set of Motive gears (returned them to Summit for a set of G2s) and not having a good place to start as a baseline.

Aside from that its a pita to get the really thin shims sandwiched between a thicker shim and then everything slide in easily and together. A majority of that problem was not taking the time to build a beefier housing spreader.

I like pressing the bearing on top of the shims and knowing nothing is going to move and everything is seated.

I could have swarn I mentioned I'd send you some better shims. The carrier shims I have, have hold all the shims together in a sandwich so it's like putting in one thick shim. Had a extra set

You did. I didn't know they were different than the regular shims I got with the rebuild kit.

That's pretty slick!

The ones in my 10.5 are a bit nicer then the ones in the link. And the ones that came in my install kit I got are like the ones in the link. Than I have a stack of regular old shims like you used. Them do suck.

The 9" is easy to setup to me, I like the fact you set it up on a bench rather than laying under it
