F-250 brakes

I have a 96 F-250 w/ the diesel. There are apparently two different types of brakes that I can have on my truck either 12" x 2 1/2" or 12" x 3" How can I find out which kind I actually need for my specific truck? Please help, need to know by tomorrow.

F-250 brakes

Hello,

The only real way that I know of is to remove the drum and measure the width of a shoe. I hope that those drums just pull off and are not full floaters otherwise you will be into a little more work. Hope this helps.

I just did the rears on my truck and the only way to tell is to pull the drums. Since you have a F350 you will have the full float axle. if your drum does not just slide off after you remove the tire and back off the adjuster you will need to pull the WHOLE hub assem off to get to the shoes. If this is the case, make sure you have a hub tool. A damper pulley is also a BIG help I found. Just thread the bolts for the axle shaft flange through the puller slots, put some bar stock on the axle tube and crank away till she pops off. Just make sure you pay attention to the direction the hub nut rotates. One loosens clockwise. Think it's the drivers side...
