Oil in valve cover plug??

Was doin an ohm test on my GP's and notice the front plug on the drivers side was loaded with oil. What's up with that?!?! Noticed people switching to the SD valve covers and harness, so I been playing with that idea. Does the oil mean I got a bad VC? Thanks for your help fellas

If you are getting oil in the outside plug then they are due to be changed

Thanks. My GP's are ohming at .8. Trying to think if I should go ahead and change them too while I'm in there. Has anyone seen a write up about swapping to the single plug SD VCG and UVCH?

It's not very hard, just need to line up the wires. I messed mine up at first and had two crossed.

Don't go off the colors on the link page, that is where I had two switched. Go to posts 623 and 625 on page 42 I think.

The new Dorman SD gaskets are supposed to not have a plug on the inside of the gasket. Just the wires coming out of a solid molded piece. This could eliminate the problem you're having now with getting oil in the plugs.

I've read that too, but I'm with you, I'll stick with the motorcrafts and do the 50 cent mod. My obs style dormans didn't treat me well.

You guys are awesome!! I can always depend on you fellas to guide me in the right direction and spend my money. What other stuff should I look for while I'm under the valve covers? I need to get my computer in the garage hooked up so I can get my AE goin and mess with it a bit.

If your glowplugs and injectors/orings are ok, about all you could do is check torques on rockers and injectors.

What's the best way to know if the o'rings are good or not. Just the color of the exhaust? I might just do them anyway.

The best way is to look in the fuel bowl and see if the fuel and filter in the bowl are black, but you have e-fuel, so the other way I know is to rev the truck from idle up to about 2800-3000 rpms. If it stumbles anywhere around 1700-2200 rpms, you could have some bad o-rings, but that's not a 100% accurate test.

^^^what he said^^^

It's a pretty accurate test, maybe not 100% like Bill said, but none the less pretty accurate. How many miles/how long have you had those injectors in there? Does it ever have any trouble starting?

I'm at 130k miles. I bought it at 112k and the guy said a few injectors were replaced but not sure how many. It's always seemed like it has to turn over quite a bit, but I'm comparing it to a 99 cummins. I will get a video of it starting and the rough shutdown. Asap
