front sump oil pan to rear sump on a 300
I am going to put a mustang II front suspention under the front of my 65 in the next couple of months. I got to looking at the oil pan on the 300 that is in the truck and I am afraid the pan is going to hit the new mustang II crossmember. Is there any way I could convert the 300 from a front sump pan to a rear sump? Any help would be appreciated, THANKS

My 90 has a rear sump pan on it, so I would expect to find a rear sump set up on anything from 88-96 and maybe a few others. The only problem might be getting the pan to fit your block; I believe all the EFI engines use a one piece rear main seal that requires a different pan.

I'm doing the same thing on my project 300, Except I'm going from a mid sump to a rear. If you do indeed have a front sump, that may be worth some $$.
The rear sump pan will fit fine (bolt up wise). I have not looked into the rear main seal - I've only seen one piece seals...the newer gasket should work even better that the old 4 piece. You will need the rear sump pickup too along with the a main bolt that has the extra length of thread on it to support the longer pickup tube. The biggest obstacle I've seen so far is fabbing a custom dipstick mount in the pan. Some select late eightyish rear sump pans have sticks in the pan - that would be ideal to find. I have seen an older 70's motor once with a rear sump too - very rare. I'm holding on the stick holder fab work untill I get the low end assembled. Good luck!

If you want a dipstick, get a pan from an 80-81 F-series pickup. Everything else had the tube through the block. I have one of these pans on my truck right now. I would higly recommend that if you get a used one, re-seal the plate that the dipstick tube goes through. They tend to leak like a sieve.
