Have an '86 F250 with an inline 300 6 cyl in it. Have done a trade for a '83 460 cid. The 460 is coming out from an automatic tranny and the '86 has a Warner T-18 manual 4spd. I am pretty sure that the 460 should bolt right up to the 4spd manual, but just wanted to ask if anyone knew for sure?
Ok so I will have to get a bell housing from a truck that had the 460 in it and the same manual transmission. I can just buy the new clutch and plate since I will be switching it out I will just do new. Does that make sense?
So my be a dumb question, but I dont suppose I can use the bell housing and fly wheel from the transmission in the '83 with the 460 already in it can I? Its an auto transmission
You can easily tell without knowing the year by looking at the front of the engine, behind the harmonic damper.
If it is a tubular spacer the engine has internal balance.
If it has a 'hatchet' counter weight like this, it is external.
I'm not sure I understand - Did you swap trucks or did you get a 460 to put in your 86 to replace the 300? I've read and re-read your first post but am still confused.
The reason I ask is that the engine perches, the things bolted & riveted to the frame, are different between those for a 460 vs a 300.
I have an '86 F250 and it has the 300 in line in it with a 4 spd manual. I also have an 83' with a 460 in it and an automatic transmission. I want to put the 460 into the '86 after I remove the 300.
