New truck/old fuel

Hello, I just bought a 2008 F350 with the 6.4. It came with a transfer tank in the back that has approx. 52 gallons in it. I took about a half gallon as a sample, and it appears ok, but it smells "weak" I guess. The truck was bought from a dealer that got it from an auction, so I have no idea how old it is. Is there anyway to safely run it with dieselkleen? I just put it up on craigslist, but wondering if I can use it.

PS. How can I add a picture?

drain the tank and dispose of it, too risky.

BTW change the oil and fuel filters too.

OEM filters only

Thats what I thought so I put it on craigslist. Somebody came and took all 45 gallons of it for their generator. Now I can get this transfer tank off the bed. Thanks for your help.

If you plan on doing any long distance towing you might want to rethink getting rid of that tank. With the stock tank and pulling any significant weight when you get on the interstate you can see almost as far as you can go before refueling. I added a 60 gallon titan in place of OE and that helped some but now I have installed a 100 gallon in the bed with gravity feed in to the titan. Tried it out a few days ago and works slick as owl s&$@. Now if I plan it right I should be able to avoid buying B20 in the corn states or at least fuel up at a lowest possible price.

I can go about 550 miles empty on the highway and about 300 miles while towing my 40' GN at my max combined weight. I'd like to have a larger tank but don't want to give up my bed space PLUS those things aren't cheap.

Titan Tanks, get 67gal in place of the factory 38gal, loose no bed space, just some ground clearance.

Yeah, I just can't justify $1500 for longer range.

The price is excessive for what it is, a rotomolded tank. I suspect they are trying to recoup the tooling costs too quickly. If they cut the price in half I expect they would still have a profit margin and they would in all probability sell 5X as many units.

I researched a good bit and Titan is competitive with the other vendors. i had a 50 gallon replacement on my last truck and it was around 800 bucks as I recall. That one was steel. I think I like the titan better. The in-bed 100 gallon I got off craigs list for 200 bucks. Had to buy a fuel cap and roll over valve for it. There are always several on the ATL craigs, just had to wait for one that had no mice living in it.

They may be competitive with other aftermarket tank vendors, but they are still overpriced. Functionally it's little different than a 55gal poly drum, yet it costs 10X the price. The Ford OEM tank seems to MSRP for $479 (http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/Pa...350 Super Duty Super Duty), and we know that price will be high.

The only long trip it will see is a cross country back to PA for Christmas, and I need the bed space and payload more than the fuel capacity. Oil and tranny fluids/filters just changed, now need to find time to get the new fuel filters in there. Thanks again.
