1960 F250 4x4 Project
All,
I have posted on here a few times but thought I would come and post again since I'm actually starting my build (finally).
I've got a 1960 F250 4x4 that I bought from the 2nd owner. I bought it because the body is immaculate. Very straight, with only the most minor surface rust. Some pics:
Anywho, so I finally moved into a house with a garage () which allowed me to start building. I've gotten the thing basically all the way torn apart. The only thing left on the chassis is the cab, which is stripped (no doors, seat, tank, wiring, etc.). My engine is on a stand, the tranny and transfer case are on a bench.
That being said, I'm ready to start rebuilding them! But now I'm struggling to find parts. I've been desperately trying to find a bearing, gasket, and syncro kit for the T98a tranny and a bearing and gasket kit for the DS 24 transfer case. www.cobratransmission.com has some of the parts but the syncro kit is out of stock and I don't want to have to order it in stages.
I also need a full rebuild kit for the 292. Northern Auto has some but not sure where is the best place to go. Any thoughts?
Also, I want to do a power/disc break conversion up front and don't think that anyone makes a kit for the 8 lug axles (I've searched and searched and can't find one). Is that true?
Finally, I want to go to a 4 barrel carb but don't know where I can get a 4 barrel IM for the 292. Any ideas?
I know it's a lot of questions right away but I've been sitting on this long enough and am ready to get some serious work done. Thanks!

Well Jeff's bronco graveyard has the bearing and gasket kit for the dana 24 I'm not sure if they have the t98 rebuild kit but perhaps. Blackbirds customs makes a disc brake kit for the early dana 44 or you could switch to a newer axle like I'm doing to get disc brakes. John mummert makes everything y block they'll have the 4bbl intake you'll want and they have rebuild kits. Good luck with the build post your progress

Have you checked with a local auto parts store? I have a relatively current Federal Mogul catalog and they list several bearings and seals.
They show Ford F250 48 to 64 as the years.
Input shaft bearing 308-L1
Mainshaft Seal 450308 bearing 308-L
Mainshaft pilot W-1590-Q
Countershaft bearing C-436-Q
Reverse Idler bearing Q-6283
2nd speed gear bearing Q-6086
They also show seals and bearings for the 59 to 65 Spicer 24 transfer case.

Welcome. John Mummert has a rebuild kit for the 292 that is reasonable.
The stock 4 barrel iron intake is a good choice. Find one with the B suffix so it will fit the later carbs. A good choice is the Holley 1848 4 barrel. It is a stock replacement and is set up to match your acc linkage. Available at Holley new. Recommend going with a 5 blade fan, and pointless kit for your distributor. These are good trucks especially hard to find one without rusted out floors, fenders. Let us know how it is going.
