1982 F100 3 speed manual transmission identification

I have a 1982 F-100 2wd with a 300 six cylinder and a three speed column shift manual transmission. The transmission recently became very noisy. I am looking to find a good used one to replace it or possibly rebuild the original. What is this type of transmission called and what years would interchange? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Brian.

Its a 303 ford 3spd .Sounds like you need the input and output bearings replaced.I'd put a 435 new proccess in if I was replacing trans .Measure length of 3 spd if you find a 4spd measure length of it .If you can get the drive shafts that came with the 4spd that be the way to go .There may be a differance in drive shaft lengths .I'M thinking they may be the same but I would do some measuring to be sure

Thanks for the quick reply. Any idea what year 303 is the same as my 82 F100? Thanks, Brian.

Look in trucks & vans, 100-250 series, 1980/82 (maybe 83 and 84, I forget exactly when the last year was for that tranny).

Ford built the 303 3 speed all though the 70's and up to 83 to 85 in vans.even in the late 60's I think they built them I had one in a 69 F100 .All the truck and van Trans I believe had the same number of splines on the input shaft
