opinions wanted, and when did you do first oil change?

My truck has 1900 miles now, and I'm leaving on a 1600 mile road trip tomorrow (Non towing). I was thinking about doing my first oil change tonight before the trip. Not necessary I know, but do you think the "Break in" oil should be changed sooner than my usual 5K interval? When did you change yours for the first time? On my previous truck I changed at 1000 miles, then at 5000, then every 5000 after that, and had great luck, but I'm just curious as to how any of you did it. Thanks.

I'd get it changed, then stick with the 5k intervals (depending on your use). It probably wouldn't make a difference, but it's what I would do and would be one less thing for me to think about on the trip.

Check the oil and go over the truck after you get it done, sometimes those guys are sleepin', and you don't want to deal with the aftermath of that on the road.

Thanks, I'll probably go ahead and do it tonight. I always do my own changes on my trucks.

Just finished. Motorcraft 5-20 was 17.97 per 5 qt jug at Wallyworld. 820s filter was 3.97. Filter change sure was easier than my '03 5.4 in which it was mounted sideways. Anyway, all gassed up for the trip. Going from Orting, Wa to Idaho Falls, Id and back so, a couple mtn passes, some two lane highway, and some interstate. I'll report on mileage etc when we get back.

I ran 7,000 miles first time and 8,063 the second time. Oil life monitor was under 10% left (I think). UOA came back with aluminum and iron above averages, but has been dropping. Since averages are at 4100 miles, I doubt I have much to fear. This is with motorcraft 5w-20 oil and filter.

did my first at 5k and second at 10k and substituted 1 quart for a bottle of the Luca's oil treatment....I swear by that stuff!

And now have 13k on it now will do the third at 15......just got back from a 2k mile trip and the oil still looks new.

This is just my way and have never had a problem, oil and filter each 3K ,come hell or high water. Tire rotation every other oil change. I know pending on driving conditions, etc, etc. Newer oil is better and can go longer, but I have been raised that way and to old to change now.

I'm running Mobil 1 0W-30. It gets changed every 7500 miles, including the first change.

No harm in changing it early. I have mine done (for free by dealer) every 5k miles. I also have my tires rotated at same time.
