Simple vacuum question, for anybody with a 300 six

I answered all of my questions reading these threads. If you found this searching through the forums, just read these.

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate anyone who has a 300 inline 6 in their truck to post a picture of where the vacuum line from the EGR goes to.

(EGR is attached to the spacer between the carb and intake manifold)

Someone took the EGR system away from my truck, I'd love to put it back in but I dont know how it's hooked up. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Meantime Ill keep searching through the forums

Here is the best pic I have on my laptop. It is an 83 F100 49 State emissions. I'll try to get a better one tomorrow after work if this one isn't good enough.

It's really going to depend on what year truck it is. In all cases, though, Ford put a sticker on the radiator support under the hood depicting what connects to what; below is mine for reference:

Yeah I know but this engine was not original to the truck. It had a six but PO threw in this drivetrain from a late 70's. It's also a six, which I rebuilt now, but I'm just trying to see what I can do. I dont have a intake man. capable of the whole air pump system, so I figured all I want to do is hook up the EGR system properly if possible. He had the tube coming off the exhaust manifold, but then it was just cut off and welded. Not sure if I'm making sense here. My vacuum diagram off the truck is in the pic below, but like I said, everything got ruined by PO. You can see a EGR spacer I got off some random 78 truck at the junkyard..

My YFA carb has only one vacuum fitting sticking off, at the very bottom. Do your guys' YFA's have more vacuum nipples there? You see my arrow pointing to it. Thats where my hang up is, I dont know if I have enough vacuum fittings on the carb to hook this EGR system up. Thanks again

On my carburetors (both the 77 and the 83) the nipple you have circled on yours goes to the distributor. I can get more pictures of both but it might be more confusing than helpful since yours is an 80. I'll check my Chilton's book and see what I can find but it will be tomorrow before I can get to it. Check in the 300 sub-forum, there might be some threads there that could help.

My 86 EGR has two vacuum lines coming off it (it's dark now I'll check for routing this afternoon if no one else has). Keep the EGR hooked up, it allows the engine to run more advance wiithout pinging, also will give you better fuel mileage. Definitely a myth that removing it makes things better...unless the system is not working correctly to begin with. ~Bill

I'm an idiot, you guys are right that that nipple is for the distributor. (its been 7 years since I took it all apart)

Somehow, my carb has this bracket with a WOT dump valve, which is there to disable the EGR system at WOT, and my exhaust manifold has a big hole for the EGR tube to plug into, but the engine didnt have the EGR carb spacer when I got the truck, and my carb, doesnt have an EGR nipple. And I do have the PVS valve on there. Mess. PO put 75 300 into 80 truck.

No big deal, this is a show truck and there's no emissions out here anyways.

I'll have to do some research to make sure I have the proper vacuum advance module, for a non-egr engine, because Bill you're not the first guy I've read on here saying the wrong advance will cause engine trouble

You guys will like my truck, soon enough

Look forward to seeing pictures of your truck. I hope you get it running the way you want it too.
