I was operating under the assumption that I had a Dana 60 in the rear, but after looking at A Boy and his Jeep » Dana 60/70 Rear Drums for getting my brakes done, I think I actually have a Dana 70. That write-up seems to mostly cover Dana 60's. I also came across this thread, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13441356, this post's photos in particular show the same rear as my truck and it's a Dana 70 in that post.

I bought all the parts I thought I would need online before doing the brakes and was lucky enough to find the right parts locally once I realized it. Mine has the following differences:

1. I didn't have a axle lock washer when I took mine apart. Spindle lock nut seems to go right up to outer bearing.
2. The oil seal he mentions in the write-up is way too small for my drum.
3. I have axle lock wedges holding my spindle lock nut in place.
4. Different wheel cylinders (at least I came up with the ones listed in the write-up wouldn't fit my truck).

The brake procedure seems to be pretty similar except where the parts differences listed above, and torque specs are different, mostly with the spindle lock nut, i.e. minimum 50 ft. lbs. (60) vs. minimum 120 ft. lbs. (70). This all isn't a problem yet because I'm not finished with both sides, but the 60 torque specs for the axle to the hub are higher, and I did have one bolt break off in the hub. All the others were fine though.

So my questions is: I have a Dana 70 and not a 60, correct?

Also, if anyone needs both axle lock washers and oil seals (# 24917), I have them...

I don't trust those codes....

 

Then how the hell do you expect to find out which rear axle you have?

 

Using mine as an example I have a totally different rear and front end than the code gives ad they are factory. Better off checking the casting numbers and spinning a tire/pulling the cover.
