Power Steering Conversion, 65 F-100?
I'd like to add power steering to my 65 F-100. This is a stock truck, 352 V8, 4 speed transmission, conventional steering. I'm getting older and it's getting harder to back the old boat into the slip if you know what I mean. How difficult and expensive is it to add a Bendix or Saginaw power steering unit to my grand old pickup? Any experience or counsel would be appreciated. BDMartin

Read the thread below by Jesse Damien Revel entitled "'66 Ford F100 PS with new parts?" The information there should apply equally to your '65. Since you have a 4 speed, shortening the steering column shaft will be a lot easier than if you had an automatic or 3 on the tree. Hope this helps.

Gee wilikers, John Wilker,at my age and size (getting smaller and lighter every day) I can clutch only one thing at a time. I've decided better to clutch the shifter than to clutch the steering wheel and be thrown every way but loose inside the cab. This old fart is going for some power steering before he gets the s--- knocked out of him. :-). BDMartin

I haven't, John, since all of this is still pretty new to me. But you sound like the guy who knows and I am smart enough to listen. What would a set up like that cost an old fart (ball park) if I found a donor and hired someone with the know how to do it? Thanks for the suggestion. It would certainly make it easier to hug the old truck for a few more years :-). BDMartin

BD, I have no idea because I am not able to do it like that. If you are a check writer maybe $2-3,000.00 total, if you are crafty, can buy beer, run a grill, get them knuckles black & greasy, much less.
I was fortunate in that I found a half ton 76 donor 360/C6 in decent not running shape, had a place & tools to work, sold parts off it that I didn't use for more than I paid. The key is you have to make a plan & work your plan.
First I'd put where you are in your profile, join a local group near you and get started. You can always find guys near that are willing to help. Make it a by the end of next year project and you can save some bucks.
