In a couple of years, we intend to replace the Expedition with something smaller, more economical and a bit more nimble. My wife likes the looks of the Edge.

My stepson had a 2011 rental for a few months while he was waiting for his company car to be delivered and we fell in love with it.

Pros / cons / advise?

 

We purchased a used 07 SEL in 09 with 35k miles and the wife drives it 90% of the time as she loves it. It's fwd only and we've had 2 small problems. One was a front wheel bearing and the other was a bad tie rod end. It now has about 97k miles and runs just like it did when we bought it. One other thing the battery was new when we bought it according to the date code. It lasted 3 years(dead cell). The dealer wouldn't help me out any with warranty or anything, so I bought one from Autozone.

 

Wife was driving a 2002 EXP. Parked it and bought a 2010 EDGE.. Great little vehicle. Not near the volumn inside, but it gets 23 MPG and plenty of pep.. WE have the 3.5 L V6.

 

I have a 2009 SEL AWD. Great car, gets 24 mpg on the highway. I bought it used with 18,000 miles on with the CPO warranty. At 60,000 the PTU(Power Transfer Unit) was shot. It didn't leave us stranded or anything just smelled of burning oil. Ford replaced the part for the $100 deductable. That's the only problem we have had, otherwise this car is great. We will probably go with an Explorer next time for more room and the option of 4x4.

 

We bought a new 2013 SEL a last month. We traded in a 2010 Escape that was disappointing. Wife loves the Edge compared to the Escape. Much better ride and comfort. Mileage has been around 22MPG so far.

 

Nice reports guys, thank you. I was hoping for a little better overall MPG's.

The funny thing is, I could put my wife in a 4x2 Screw F-150 with the 3.7L V-6 and nearly match the MPG's of Ford midsize and larger crossovers and most likely come out better money wise to boot.

Decisions, decisions.

My mom had a 2010 Edge Limited. It was a very nice car and all, but I was disappointed by the fuel mileage for a vehicle of that size. Another thing is the cargo area is limited on space. I also didn't care for the amount of leg room it had.

Since you mention putting her in a Super Crew with the 3.7, have you thought of doing that and possibly putting a camper shell on the bed for dry cargo storage? Just a thought.

 

"Nimble" and "Super Crew" don't seem to be compatible concepts to me, Tim. My wife prefers a small car as her daily driver but can comfortably drive anything. I just follow the "when mama's happy everybody's happy" rule.

I suspect that you (she) would like an Edge just fine if the space worked for her needs.

2015 Ford Edge Previewed By 2013 L.A. Auto Show Concept

 

My wife currently has a '11 Edge Limited AWD. She loves it! For our needs, the cargo room in the back is sufficient. If we need more room, we just take my truck.

She had a GMC Acadia for abt. a year before the Edge. She hated that thing. It felt like a fat pig on the road and the sunroof leaked like crazy. Took it to the GMC dealer to get it fixed and the service manager's response was to not park it in the rain. It was always garage kept except for when she was at work.

 

I'm liking that a lot.

 

I will be getting a Lincoln MKX myself. Holding out for the ecoboost for it. I think 2014 for that.

We looked at the Edge and then the sister MKX. The big differences in my eyes were with the edge you could get all the bells and whistles on it but it cost more then the Lincoln that automatically comes with all the stuff.

Lincoln has like three trim levels and that is it. Plus the nice vista roof.

we just like the interior better.

The lincoln may actually be the better choice and Ford is sucking hard right now against Caddy for sales. A better deal may be struck on the high end model.

 

I looked at one Sunday that has everything on it that we want (minus ecoboost) for a 48K msrp.

AWD too.

Same color as my truck, tri-coat white metallic.

 

I can assure you that I will not entertain such a hefty price on even a truck let alone a midsized crossover. The dealer would have to bribe me something wicked to win me over.
