Bought ANOTHER 79 today...

My poor wife...
I bought a 79 F150 Ranger a couple weeks ago. Needs a little work, but nothing too major. I have to put a gas tank in it, brake booster, and a new grill shell and possibly a front right fender. No biggie. Other than that and a few minor rust holes, all in all it's a pretty solid truck. It's just unfortunately, a solid truck sitting in my driveway taking up space. Initial reason for purchase was to flip and make some quick $$. Well, I needed all those parts, coming up to somewhere around 400 bucks. What's the most sensible thing to do here? Buy another truck. I ended up talking to someone today about mine and they asked me if I would mind hauling their truck off to the metal recycler. I asked what was wrong with it, and he told me that he drove home one night and parked it in the yard with no problems, went out to start it up the next morning, and once he did, he shifted the auto trans into gear and nothing happened. Asked if it was slipping prior to that, he said no. Said he just drug it behind his house after that and there it sat, for the past 2-3 years. I know absolutely nothing else about the truck, specs, etc. All I know is that when I asked how much he wanted to sell it for and he said $300, I said DEAL! I'm hoping to go look at it and pick it up Wed. Hoping even more that it is simply out of trans fluid, or the shift linkage separated (something simple), and I can fire it up and drive it on the trailer (I've done stuff like that before). I just need to make sure I get the title for it first! I will post pics as soon as I get them, I have a feeling this one will be a keeper, especially if it's a short bed. If it's 4wd, it's getting a lift and tires. If it's 2wd, getting a Crown Vic suspension and a 4.6, and dropped. We shall see what the future holds for this one! Oh, and if it's a hunk of crap, I will sell what I can and haul the rest to the metal recycler up the street from me and get my $$ back.

Just tell your wife she doesn't have it that bad. I've got ten (and a half) pick-ups on my place. I've got another one I bought and haven't moved here yet, and may be buying another next week if the price is right.

Sadly, she has had it worse than that in the past. The agreement was that when we moved to this new house (in a neighborhood, although I am not part of the HOA), that I would keep it to one non-running project vehicle at a time. I currently have a 2002 Mustang GT vert., a 1971 C10 (which is my pride and joy), a 2004 EB Expedition, her Accord, my police car, a 79 F150 that is my non-running project, and now another 79! Oops... Hey, at least most of them run.....

Anywho, I asked some questions yesterday about the truck; its a 2wd long bed 351M/C4. Black with a little bit of rust, mostly in the hood as described. Going today at 1000hrs to check it out/pay for it, get the title, and figure a way to get it home. Can this go on a tow dolly as is, or do I need to pull the rear driveshaft?
