While I respect your desire to try and save money, never doing it before, the tools needed and tests to be done leaves me wondering if you to will get short life for your efforts similar to the last rebuild.
A rebuild can be anything from stock level to all out hard core bullet proof rebuild for which a large amount of money could be invested for long term life by a performance shop..
Been there, paid the bill and the trans is heading for 175,000 miles with no sign of giving up.
Some of the build is high capacity front pump, special pressure control valve, Bendix middle level blue lining and clutch packs, custom converter, valve body program changes and other assorted parts.
This unit will be good long after the rest of the truck gives up.
It was built for heavy duty towing.
The shop that done the job is very well known in northern N.J.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for both replies. I agree about time and tools. I found a rebuild kit that has all the essentials, and includes alto steel clutch packs, carbon fiber od band, and a shift kit for $375. I found a torque converter with 600hp rating for $350. I already know how to test the solinoids, disasemble the transmission, and rebiuld the clutch packs. I believe the company is call red eagle or red something i will be using. Is this red eagle a well trusted brand and what are some trusted transmission parts companies. I have 1000 dollars for this build and I only need snap ring removers, transmission jack and a seal clamp. I have access to most tools and I have a 300 to 500 dollar budget for tools. I can go over my 1000 if I need by about $200. I want it to be as bullet proof as possible with this budget. Again all info possible is nice

I'd go ahead and give it a go for yourself. There's so much info about these things out there and message boards like this that as long as you've got some mechanical ability and the right parts you can get the project done. And it helps huge to not be in a rush. If you can spend two weeks on it like it's a puzzle you'll be fine. You don't want to be rushed or you'll make mistakes that you won't know until you've reinstalled it. Which believe me is not fun!!

As for parts. Make sure you get high quality stuff and not some of that overseas aftermarket junk that's out there. Buy American brands. The cheap stuff will wear and you'll be doing this again all too soon. You get what you pay for is so true for transmission parts!

I've done two 4R70Ws. I get my parts from Global Transmission Parts. They've pretty much got everything you'll need at a fair price. Shipping usually takes 2-3 days. Here is a link to all their 4R70W rebuild kits.

https://www.globaltransmissionparts..../rebuild-kits/

Get a master kit if you're doing something stock and a super master kit if you're going to be doing more of a high hp application. The super master rebuild kits have Stage-1 clutches and kolene coated steels. These are made by Raybestos in Indiana. The thing I like about Global's master kits compared to a lot of other kits out there is 1) they have full bushing and thrust washer kits. Since I like to replace more then the pump and extension housing kit this is a big benefit to me. 2) even though it's a little more expensive then some of the offshore kits they parts in them are top of the line quality. 3) Global's master kits just have a lot more parts then almost every other kit out there. You might decide you don't need to use them all but for maybe $20-40 dollar difference I'd rather have the option in having it then not. Especially when it's Saturday and I just need that one part I cheaped out on to get the project wrapped up by the end of the weekend.
