1948-1950 F-1 Hood
I have a fiberglass hood on my 1950 F-1 pick-up. I want to replace it with a original metal hood though. Does anyone know what hoods will fit? I know from 1948-1950 are the same, but what about the different size of trucks (F-1...on up to the biggest)? The bigger truck hoods look the same, but are they?

Thanks for the reply. But I'm unfamilar with the usage of that term. What do you mean by eventual shimmer? Does it have to do with paint adhesion on the fiberglass?
I'm just curious. I have not been tempted to use 'glass body pieces on my f1. But have seen some unfinished F1's with 'glass front pieces. I've always wondered if the truck owners were happy with the results and how well the paint lasts on the 'glass parts. I mentally picture the corvette bodies that have been dinged and see the paint flaking and breaking off. I wonder if the truck 'glass pieces can suffer from the same affliction?

With a metal body part you can make them nice and straight, like glass. You can get any fiberglass body part the same way at first, but when the glass is exposed to heat it tends to give your nice straight panel a ripply, or wavy look. Don't get me wrong though, there isn't any thing wrong with fiberglass. I just prefer to work with metal. As far as adhesion, there isn't a problem at all.

The biggest killer for buying a hood is shipping. I shipped one via Greyhound 5-6 years ago. Greyhound got more for the hood than I did. Not only that but I ran around trying to find big enough cardboard to cover the thing, which took an hour or more to wrap, then a 45 minute drive down to the Greyhound station.
I think there has to be a good metal hood in your area, for cheap. Check out FTE members in your are, if none of them have one maybe they'll know someone who does.
