Thumbs up Project HodgePodge

Well figured i would start my build thread finally. Been gathering parts for a little while now and finally have enough ill get started on it.

the truck getting the build is my 89 f350 CC 4x4.

a little history, the truck started out as a stock f350, non turbo e4od truck, since than had a shackle reversal, ZF5 swap, ATS 088 kit.

so the plan for the build is:

HE351CW Holset charger off of a 05ish 5.9l HO cummins
A prototype db2 pump from R&D IDI Performace
Electric lift pump setup that can sustain over 300hp
ARP head studs
Comp Cams valve springs
7.3L PS intercooler
R&D IDI Performance intake manifold
R&D IDI Performance stage 1 camshaft
R&D IDI Matched injectors

this will be put onto a stock bottom end with what i was told around 70K miles. Boost numbers are up in there air as of now, i will be closing down the factory wastegate on the turbo and running non wastegate with a drive pressure gauge to monitor pressure initially. The hotside is potentially a little small but wont know till it has been tried.

i have a lot of the parts already, just need to decide on a fuel pump for the set up. was considering a fass or a full return system with a walbro inline pump and a EFI to carb regulator I will also be eliminating the stock filter/head and going to 2 external filters mounted under the truck. Here is a pic of some of the parts. the other stuff IE gaskets, intake, turbo, ect is at the shop already.

Hoping to get a start on pulling the motor here really soon so i can get the motor busted down, head studs installed along with the new valve springs and get the intake all buttoned up so i can get the turbo/up pipes installed into the truck to fit pipe for downpipe and intercooler piping. Ill continue to update the thread as progress goes and try to snap some pics too.

Interested to see how the 9cm housing works on there to say the least. Definitely shouldnt have any issues with spool up.

Cool build man, this is exactly what I want to do to my truck...kind of a budgete build. The only difference is I was gonna run an HX35 or maybe a 35/40 hybrid.

Is that a 351 VGT your gonna run? If I heard right there's a non VGT 351 too.

And are those filter heads and filters from strictly diesel? I have been looking into a filter setup for when I do e-fuel. I found filter heads and Baldwin filters on strictly diesel, just dont know if theyr gonna work well with my setup.

I got the filter heads from R&D IDI Performance also.
I was going to go with a hx35 also but I found the he351cw more appealing for what I want. The he351cw is the non vgt variant of the turbo. The he351cw flows the same amount of AIT as the best hx35 so I figure it should be a good turbo for my application. I'll try to load up some pics of the turbo on my extra engine .

The down pipe is left long till I can get it in the truck and get my fitment set. Nothing is welded yet.

Looking great man!

Keep posting pics, and making progress.... You have an original setup for sure!

Cant wait to see what that 351 does...

i have a tub full of 3" SS that a friend gave me i plan to use. should be minimal bends since the turbo outlet faces forward and the intake also faces forward. shouldn't be too tough.
still thinking on fuel, thinking about running both tanks with a secondary FSV from a GM that i would have to manually transfer the return to the tank im feeding off of. that we to alleviate having to swap to a sing tank and get the benefit of a dedicated return line from the regulator.

still have to find a air cleaner that will be able to handle the job and try to find some 4" SS for the intake.

should be able to flow plenty for the return. just got to decide how ill add the returns into the tank, may buy bungs and weld them in. well see when the time comes.

Awesome build man! Lookin' great. It's almost identical to what I am getting ready to build except for the turbo. Are you at liberty to disclose any details about this prototype DB2 you will be running?

The prototype pump is a DB2 pump that flows 110cc at 1400 rpm and only tapers to 99cc at 4000 rpm. It has all the bells and whistles that the big db4 has including EDM work and thrust washer and cam pin upgrade.

Sweet. That should have you tipping the dyno right around 300 whp if that turbo works out right. Definitely looking forward to seeing how this fuel / turbo combination does. Keep it coming!
