My 75 F100 Ranger has a knock. I have about $1500 in yard credit at a junkyard and they don't have a 360 or 390 there right now. Would I be able to put a 400 in without a whole lot of issue?
The truck has a 4 speed manual, 4wd, and is a F100 Ranger XLT.
I know you'll need different engine mounts and the bellhousings are different. Ignition systems will be different as well, I think. I'm not sure what else you'll run into.
The three that "VocaTexas" mentioned would be the main three. You may have to rewire a little , shorten or add on to the wiring . I'm not sure about clutch linkage working and the throttle linkage may have to be modified a little . Overall not a hard change over , good luck.__
It doesn't sound like a complete pain in the butt but essentially I was looking for a bolt up with maybe a different harness kind of thing. This is kind of that so I called and they don't have a 400M either. What kind of Ford only junkyard doesn't have any 360/390 or 400M's lying around?
Looks like I'll just yank mine, rering, reseal, and clean it up. See if I can't get it to last for a bit for under $1k.
