I have a 1999 F250 , 6spd manual, 7.3 ext cab short bed, and when I back up I get a lot of hopping etc until clutch is fully engaged and truck rolling.
I am assuming the rear end is torqing and creating all the racket.
Just wondering if there are any fixes.

Sounds like clutch to me. The flywheel or pressure plate may have glazed spots on it and be "grabby" when engaging.

 

Clutch is smooth as silk while engaging forward gears.
