1996 Ford 300 efi smog Delete
Hey guys I have a 1996 ford with the 300 efi straight six. The metal lines from the smog set up that go to the heads are leaking and I am thinking about just deleting the whole smog pump set up but I was gonna see what you guys thought? There is no emission checks where I live. I have read that there is no real gain to deleting it but I have also heard the smog system is known to crack heads where the lines connect to the heads. My main concern is if I do delete it will the engine still run right? Which ever decision I choose will be a fair amount of work if the part that's leaking can even be bought. And does anyone have a step by step process of deleting the smog and a website to by a idler pulley to replace the smog pump? Or what size smaller belt to buy with out the idler pulley? Thanks

For what it's worth that air injection system can be deleted with no ill effects on engine operation as long as all points where it attached to the engine and exhaust are plugged.. there can be no leaks in the exhaust upstream of the O2 sensor/s or you'll have driveability problems and codes. Also vacuum lines to the control valves in the system must be capped, and the TAB and TAD solenoids must remain electrically connected. I can't help you with a shorter belt or an idler pulley, there are parts for the V8 motors but I don't know if they would work on the I6. You could just leave the pump there as an idler as well and attach the exit muffler directly to the output to quiet the sound of blowing air going nowhere.
