Long term fuel mileage

Whatever the MPG meter says is just based on whatever has happened since it was last reset. I always calculate the "real" MPG and the gauge is generally ~¼ MPG optimistic.
I know that the odometer is a little high compared to my GPS. A couple of years ago there was an interview with a guy whose job was to certify gas pump accuracy (in Oregon I think). He said that a calibrated pump will err in the customer's favor at low pump rates and in the station's favor at high delivery speeds. As they say,,, YMMV!
