1994 Ford 460 EFI. The first time you start it the truck runs fine. Let it run for a couple of minutes and shut it off and try to start it again and all it does is crank smells like it is flooding itself. If I leave the truck sit for about a hour I can go back out and it will start. I have placed a code reader and received error codes for the temp sensor, throttle position sensor, intake air temperature. I have replaced the temp sensor and tps sensor still having the same problem. I had this problem a couple of weeks ago and found that the wire was broken that went from the battery to the body ground was broken. This temporary fixed the problem for about a week, now i'm back to the same thing and I'm lost. My father and I spend about two hours a night trying to figure this out. Please help me.

 

Have you checked your fuel pressure regulator?

 

How many wires was on the TEMP sensor (1 or 2)?
If it was two wires replace the intake air temperature sensor.
Note that you will get an error code for those two sensors in KOEO test with a cold engine.

Two wire temp sensor has been replaced along with the tps. Have take and cleaned all grounds. I'm at a loss? Spark is good.

 

Did you replace the intake air temperature sensor (IAT)?

 

This is Dad. My son sent me this post this AM. Subford, You are talking about the sensor attached to the intake right under the Throttle plates (under the cobra neck) right? It does have 2 wires. Just a quick question With the truck running if I plug the hose that runs into that sensor with my thumb it idles down or if I remove the wires going to it it idles down but acts like it is loading up. I read your post about changing the air temp sensor. No we have not but I will give that a try. Another thing this all started after we switched the cab. The old one was a rust pile. We gutted each of the cabs and reinstalled all the old wiring dash etc from the old cab in to the new along with the computor etc. All grounds are good. I will get a intake air temp sensor ordered and give that a try. Thanks

 

No that is not a sensor. That is the Idle Air control valve (IAC).

Note that the temp sender in the photo is for the temp gauge only and only has one wire on it.
The ECT sensor with two wires is located as in the photo.

 

Thank You the picture. I would have ordered the wrong part. The other night I did pull the IAT sensor out looked at it but had no idea what I was looking for so put it back in but will order a new one. I am sure it has 2 wires attached to it. per your other post. Thanks Again

When talking of two wires I was talking about the ECT sensor not the IAT but the IAT sensor also has two wires.

 

just reread earlier posts and looking at the picture. We had replaces the ECT Sensor not temp sender as stated in the first post and the TPS sensor. You wanted to know if the temp sender had 1 or 2 wires. The water temp sender has only 1 wire going to it. The ECT has 2 wires, The IAT has 2 wires and the IAC has 2 wires. I miss read your earlier post I think. I thought you were talking about the air temp sensor having 1 or 2 wires sorry or the confusion Are we still on the right track? replacing the IAT?

Yes I think we are on the right track as your problem is caused most of the time by the ECT or IAT sensors.

 

Changed the iat sensor truck is still doing the same so I guess I'm back to square 1 any other ideas.
