Looking at truck

Ok, I need some help here. I'm looking at buying a 2003 F150 ext cab 2 wheel drive. This truck has the 5.4L and I believe it's an automatic. My problem with this truck is it has 224K on the clock. How dependable are these engines? Is it coming to the end of it's life and what about the transmissions. Talking the owner about it all he tells me is that the truck has been serviced frequently. That doesn't tell me a lot. I can grab it for about $2400 maybe a little less. Any thoughts?? Thanks. OH and it has a tommy lift on the back so I'm assuming the truck has been worked to some extent.

I guess I need to find something with less miles because it has to make a few trip from IL to FL and I know one of the trips I'll be hauling a 20ft enclosed trailer loaded.

Thanks again.
