96 F250 Transmission Type

On the older Ford VIN numbers you used to get the transmission type. I have run the VIN number for my 96 F-250 and I can't get what type of transmission I have in the truck. Is there another ID number on the truck somewhere that I can quickly get this information? It has a 5.8L / 351 engine. I would imagine it is either a C6 or AOD but I want to make sure. I want to do a filter change and fluid change so I need to make sure I am getting the right gasket and filter and also amount of fluid.

Thanks

Should be an E4OD. # of bolts in the pan is one way to tell. There should be a trans code on the door sticker also.

No VIN of any year Ford truck has the TRANS code within it.

1980 thru today: TRANS code printed on the Certification Label.

1957/79: TRANS code embossed on the Warranty Plate.

1948/56: Transmission type embossed on the Rating Plate.

AOD: 14 trans pan bolt holes / C6: 17 trans pan bolt holes / E4OD: 20 trans pan bolt holes.
