water in antenna rusting out connection, anyone?

this will be the second time that i have had to change my antenna, the portal where the ant. goes into the back of radio rusts out so bad that i get no reception. the first go round i had to use #9 klein pliers to remove the antenna not to mention that when i cut the cable in two for easier removal ( behind the glove box), water was literally dripping from where i cut. I checkd out the mounting pedestal on the top of the fender and it doesnt seem to me that it could leak but Im thinking that that has got to be where the water is getting in. I was wondering if any one could identify.
the moisture was so bad that the head too was loaded with moisture, rust, and corrosion iside of it.

Was the coaxial cable connecting the antenna and radio hollow? If so, the moisture could have been caused by condensation inside the cable.

I have had that problem in hollow coax cables feeding outdoor antennas and running into a radio in my basement.
