24.5 steer tires

Getting ready to buy a set of 24.5 steer tires. Now the truck has all 11/R24.5's thinking about putting a 24.5 LP on the steer axle and keep the 11/R24.5's on back. Been told this makes a truck steer better? Any truth to this? I have always thought run all the same, that way when the steers wear down swap them to the back.
Will not run these enough to wear them out. So what is a good tire at a nice price.
Pete
