351W in 49 f3
just bought a 95 f150 4x4. so planning on putting in the 351w efi in my 49 f3. Id like to lose what ever doesn't NEED to be there.
things id like to do to it:
summit block hugger headers
it will be mated to a c4
id like to change out the serpentine pulleys cause id like to run a gm alt. with no power steering
any help on does and don'ts on this swap would be helpful

Hi Maninblack,
We put a 351W in our 1950 F1. We shifted it approx. an inch or so over to the passenger side - you need room to get the steering down past the headers. We were too chicken to try EFI - went with a carb. set up. I look forward to seeing your experience.

the only acc. I plan on using is an alternator (most likely a gm style). so I really don't need a serpentine system. what need to be changed. thinking the waterpump is reverse rotation. can I just change it or do I need to change timing covers aswell?
also id planning on running shorty headers. what should I do with the egr valve setup that goes to the pass. manifold

If you have questions about the efi, there is good info at this link.

finally tearing apart the 95 and been collecting more parts for this. im looking into mating the 351w with a m5r2 5 speed and was thinking on a hanging brake pedal but now im looking into this pedal setup http://www.ebay.com/itm/350534599191?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Back in the mid-80s, I put a 351W/C6 combo into a '51 F1 Panel. In retrospect, the C6 was a mistake - it cleared the floorboards, but just barely, and getting it in was a bear. Regardless, I used the transdapt mounts and it bolted in pretty easily. I don't recall which headers I used, but I suspect I modified some headers from an early Mustang because I had them.
If you swap to normal pulleys, you will need to change the water pump and front cover, but it will also let you put on an early cover with a mechanical fuel pump boss and front dipstick if you go that route.
I don't think you can run just the alternator with the stock serpentine setup...you'd need the AC to make the belt work properly...hey, there's an idea, AC! You can eliminate the smog pump & power steering and run alternator/AC and find an old evaporator that looks the part like an early Mustang or other early aftermarket under-dash unit...don't need much to cool off that small cab!
