Code Readers or Diesel Scanner Questions

Hello,

I'm new to diesels and have a 2003 F250 with the 7.3L. I want to get some dianogstic tools or code reader/diesel scanner.
1.) What are the good brands and where can I get them?
2.) Does Harbor Freight sell any that are good or worth it?
3.) Is this a type of tool that I should have in my arsenal or is it better to just pay for the service as it isn't needed as much?

Thanks,
Otto

^^^ I second that... bit pricey but you will never need another scanner (for Ford especially). You will be able to do a lot of your own testing and along with the info on this forum, you should be set.

the only thing bad about AE is you will need a laptop or a computer int he garage with a long cable to hook up the vehicle to it.
