2013 F150 FX4 Appearance Package Command Start Questions
Hey there all, Ive been reading in the manual about the remote start climate control on these trucks and have some questions... It says in the book that it will automatically turn on heat and or cooling operations depending on outside temperature and what yhou have programmed in the truck, BUt it does not say whether or not its ONLY with factory equipped Remote Start systems...
Does anyone know if you can get an Aftermarket Remote Start system installed (we all know the ups and downs of OEM systems when it comes to these products) and have the dealership tie into the system on the truck programming the climate control system????
I purchased my truck without Factory remote start on the thought of getting a better quality aftermarket system, but it sure would be nice to have the auto climate system working as well, as when I try to go through the information display I do not have options in the system to allow changes to my remote start climate settings...
Hope I make sense and hopefully someone can help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean ups and downs of OEM systems? I did purchase the factory remote start ($600.00?) and it works great. The controls are part of the key rather than a seperate fob that most after market starters will use. Also most dealers / manufacturers will void your warranty if you add any device like that to the vehicle. It's going to be nice this winter having a warm truck to get into.

In a Consumer Alert issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the agency confirmed that “The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket part.” The alert outlines key provisions in the law that provides protections to car owners. As defined by the FTC, an “aftermarket' part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer.”
“The FTC’s reference to aftermarket parts is equally applicable to specialty parts,” said Russ Deane, SEMA’s General Counsel. “Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the warranty cannot be conditioned to a specific brand of parts, services or vehicle modifications unless those parts or services are provided free of charge.”
The alert notes that a consumer has the right to patronize independent retail stores and repair shops for parts and service without fear of voiding the new car warranty. The dealer/vehicle manufacturer has the right to deny a warranty repair but they must demonstrate that the aftermarket part caused the problem. The warranty remains in effect for all other covered parts.
The FTC alert may be downloaded using this link: Federal Trade Commission Apology Page.
The alert was issued in response to an FTC complaint filed last August by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), Automotive Oil Change Association (AOCA) and the Tire Industry Association (TIA).

I have the factory remote start in my 2013 and it works great! Would rather have the factory installed one that is integrated with the rest of the systems.
But that said, there after market ones the do work okay. My Bil has one his 06 diesel and it works good too. If it is cold he just leaves the heat set to warm it up inside or to defrost the windshield.
