If you just want to test to see if it is the sensors or not, there is a plug connector on the passenger side of the rear drive shaft that you can disconnect. a light will come on to tell you there is a problem. The guy at the Ford dealer crawled under the drivers side and reached accross to the passenger side to disconnect this plug. He then took me for a short ride and no noise. We brought it back and he plugged it back in abn the noise is there again. If you have switches on the panel that say Auto 4x4 and 4x4 Hi, you have all wheel drive and the option of manual 4 wheel drive. My Ranger does not have this. My Ranger also has a passenger side door lock. Both are 2010 vehicles. Kind of pi$$es$ me off. The Explorer is the wifes and she had to have certain things on it. Took a while to find it, but we did. We were Suburban drivers prior to this and she wanted to downsize and get away from Chevy/GMC. We're happy with the explorer, just not this issue.

Had 2 new tires installed yesterday..all 4 are BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A..P238/65/r/18
Driving home car rode good but don't know if I was riding gun shy or feeling road but a few times I thought I felt it but not strong & for the most part 95 % of ride was great...
spoke to tranny guy on phone & he said should be OK & when I get home to NJ to have transfer fluid changed as there is a clutch in there & needs to have clean fluid.
At this point I am hoping to gear up for next week to travel home & hope for the best.
Thanks

The Auto 4x4 is supposed to be 2 wheel drive and then the 4 whell kicks in when it is needed. This is determined by the wheel sensors and the computer. For used to have a slogan for traction control grip when you slip. The auto 4x4 is basically 4 wheel drive traction control. My explorer was under warrenty and they would not change the wheel sensors because they said it was the circumference of the tires. I told them that was crap and they should replace the sensors if they are that sensitive. I lost. Now it's not under warranty.
