81 C700 w/ 429 no voltage at coil
Hi folks,
This is my first Ford and I don't have any information about the truck. I believe it has a 429 based on what I have read in this forum. 76k miles, most of which were spent in the Las Vegas desert best I can tell.
I started it up yesterday. Ran a few minutes, moved it out of the barn and it died. Started up again and it died again. Now I am getting no spark at all.
I was looking at the coil and checking the wires. They were pretty brittle and one pulled out of the clip that goes on the coil. I replaced about a foot of the two wires, just outside if the larger harness and put new connectors on. No change.
Tested ohms at the coil with the ignition off and got 1.5 which I think is less than half of what I should have. Voltage at the coil with the switch on is zip.
Now I am looking at the ignition switch but don't know how to test it. Does anyone know how to do that?
Also, is that a part readily available? What about the ignition harness?
I also found when I pulled the ignition switch a black wire with white stripe not connected to anything and a red, 3wire plug not connected to anything. Can't find another wire/plug that thy might attach to. Does anyone have a wire diagram I could look at?
One last note, my tach is not working and I have not spent any time on that yet.
Thanks for any help.
Gary
