1948 Tuscan Tan

I know a few of you have a 1948 truck. Where can I get this color for the inset grill and lights? Quart or rattle can is fine. Or should I just try to match as close as I can? What did you do? Lastly, this is not a show truck, FWIW.

Thanks.

Sorry....I have a much more modern 1952 truck. As I understand it, the grill parts were Argent in color from the factory, but that might not be the case for the 48. Hopefully some of the 48-50 guys will weigh in.

Subscribing. My early '49 was originally tan in the grill assembly. I am going back with tan as it will show up the chrome much better than any thing else. It will look good with the blue, also. And, I am almost to the point of needing the paint.

M14227 is the code for Tucson Tan. Check with some of your local auto parts stores. We have one locally that will mix Sherwin Williams paint in virtually any size including rattle cans with the code.

Sherwin Williams

I gave them the paint code but they had no idea. Typically the SW auto finish guys need the SW code.

Try PPG #20384. I did a quick search and that turned up as being a match. http://www.clubfte.com/users/earl/Re...aterial_2.html

Find smarter guys - any decent shop understands that cross-referencing is an essential business requirement.

Try another shop, The old ford codes are in the SW books as cross reference. Obviously you got one of them 'I can't find it in the puter' kids.

I think you guys have the spelling incorrect. I believe it should be "Tucson" tan as named after the Arizona city in which I live. I also believe the original color of the 1948 grilles was "Tacoma" cream which was an old Ford color used on Model A wheels and on other parts as well as pin striping. My Dad always told me the 1948 ford coupe he bought in Detroit was Tucson Tan that was long before we moved to Tucson, Arizona. Check on FordBarn.com, one of the Jalopy Journal sites for original Ford stuff.

Nope, the '48 grill color was definitely Tucson Tan. BTW, the color on the Model A wheels you mentioned was 'Old Ivory' code IM2875. Tacoma Cream was an accent color only available on Fords in '35 & '36

Additional evidence

Not to continue this "argument" but when I removed the stainless steel trim the color (based on looking at color swatches on-line) was a great deal closer to a cream color then than the Tuscan Tan swatch on-line.

Do yourself a favor and don't rely on the color swatches on line. If you look below here is the paint chart for my trucks color and then the actual color on the truck.

Might not have been a match, but it sure looks good to me, Joe.
